Overcoming negative beliefs

Five common reasons for negative beliefs about safety are:

1. You think you lack control over safety issues.
2. You think you lack knowledge about safety.
3. You think you lack skills to act, coach, think and see your way to safety improvement.
4. You think you lack support and encouragement to work safely.
5. You think others will consider you weird or out of touch if you follow all the safety rules.

In fact, thinking positively about safety allows you to overcome the negative beliefs:

1. You can control safety.
2. You know enough to behave safely.
3. You have the skills to apply People-Based Safety.
4. You can support and encourage others to work safely.
5. You can be a leader and set the example.
