Positive self talk

Is it possible to improve our thinking, our safety mindset, before it’s too late? Absolutely! You can intentionally control your thinking, your self talk – and use it to stay safe. The key is to stay focused in the moment, keep your mind on task and stay positive. To avoid negative self-talk, it’s a good idea to think about safety-related instructions and reminders while you work.

Here are some examples of positive self talk. You can use them as boosters when you hear yourself getting negative:

* Most incidents that result in injuries can be prevented.
* Staying safe is a good way to stay productive.
* I control my own safety.
* I influence what happens to me.
* I’m a responsible, quality-minded worker. Safety is part of the package.
* Safety is a shared responsibility.
* The workplace is safer when we watch out for each other.
