Hazard Recognition Traps

A hazard recognition trap is a blind spot, something that keeps us from seeing what is right in front of our nose.

Distractions are a very common hazard recognition trap. Think how easily our attention gets diverted. You are driving a crew to the worksite. What distractions could cause risky behavior?

* Thinking about the job
* A loud conversation in the vehicle
* Looking at scenery or landmarks
* Adjusting the radio, CD or tape player
* A cell-phone call

You must try and see past your blind spots and hazard recognition traps to spot the hazards ahead of time.
